Biography
An award winning musician, Andrew has played a wide variety of performances at festivals, concerts and coroporate functions. His Jazz Piano playing and compositions are both appreciated in New Zealand's local music scene. He has achieved success at the Montana National Jazz Festival, after being named "Most Outstanding Keyboardist" in 2007, and recently "Best Pianist" in 2008.
After playing in festivals in the summer of 2007, Andrew featured as the Pianist on Los Angeles based bass player Ben Shepherd's debut album "Double Play". This project features one of Andrew's original compositions entitled "Take That". The album features collaboration with local musicians such as Matt Mulholland, Chris Sylvester, Lorenzo Pradel and Leigh Jackson.
Andrew is also a member of Wellington Indie/Rock band "The Lunchbox Boys". This band has enjoyed success winning the Playitstrange national songwriting competition, achieving radio airplay, and a music video showing on New Zealand Music Entertainment channel C4 show "Vodafone Select Live". Andrew plays an essential role in writing material for this band, and plays keyboards and saxophone as well as backing vocals. The Lunchbox Boys are currently in the process of recording their first EP due out late 2008.
Andrew's collaboration with Wellington jazz musicians, a funk/soul project named "Groove Generation", recently enjoyed success as being judged winners of the Wellington regional final of smokefreerockquest in july 2008.
Having studied Piano from the age of four, Andrew has been influenced by many musicians. Jazz musicians such as Bill Evans, Brad Mehldau, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock, inspired Andrew to play Jazz Piano, which has since become a longtime passion. In the future, Andrew plans to study Jazz Performance at a prestigious overseas university, playing music in bands as well as leading groups, having a career in writing and performing music professionally.
